By dint of the fact that the baby sleeps there throughout the night, there was always the inevitable spit-up or leaky diaper that occurred. Which entailed stripping the bed in the middle of the night, dabbing at the spots while trying to make sure the mattress didn't absorb the liquid, then replacing with a clean sheet. Not fun at 4am. Again. So we decided to get a waterproof mattress pad. But 99.9% of the waterproof ones are laminated with vinyl..which is a bad chemical for kids (or anyone) to be around, especially if you're a baby and you sleep right on it! We were at our wits' end because we didn't want any liquid being absorbed into the mattress and causing bacteria to grow, yet also did not want the baby to inhale chemicals as he slept. Also, the fact that memory foam comes with a warning that it is HIGHLY FLAMMABLE always freaked me out...the wool has natural flame resistance. I am buying two more pads for each of the twin beds so that I won't worry so much about the kids, either. Love this product!!!! |
